What Did You Do Last Week?

Self-Initiated Accountability

Recently, it Made the News...
when Elon Musk asked government employees to list 5 things they worked on in the previous week.
Some found the question intrusive, however I was among many who found both the inability and unwillingness to answer, inconceivable.
For as long as I've been consulting, I've tracked both the hours I've worked to the quarter hour, including data about what I've worked on. Additionally, I record metrics about my personal actions and goals as well. At any given point, I could have told you, and still can, what I worked on last week, how many hours I worked on it, and what high-impact goals I accomplished or made progress toward.
I'm Ready
I've actually rarely had occasion to share this data with a willing participant, as I routinely keep my clients abreast of the status of their projects, and only once did a client express curiosity about how the hours I'd billed were used. He was satisfied, and possibly surprised, with the detailed spreadsheet I provided in answer to his query. But should someone ask, I'll always have an answer should you want to know, what I've done last week..
